BENGALURU: The Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (KPYCC) filed a petition before High Grounds police here on Friday against Union minister VK Singh for his insensitive statements against Dalits to a TV channel.
The petition was filed by Anand Begur R, a functionary of KPYCC. The petition has been filed invoking provisions of Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 under section 3 (insult to Dalit by a non-Dalit), section 4 (public servant committing any offence) and section 5 (repeat offence), KPYCC president Rizwan Arshad told TOI.

Asked about the atrocity in Haryana, where two children were burnt to death by forward caste, Singh said the central government could not be associated with every incident, and the local administration had to be blamed for it. “For everything like, if somebody throws a stone at a dog, then the government is responsible, it is not like that,” he added.
Arshad said the youth Congress demanded an unequivocal apology from Singh and his sacking from the cabinet.
Meanwhile, the police denied registration of a case and claimed that since the incident happened outside their jurisdiction, the youth Congress will have to file a private complaint before a magistrate court, which may refer it for investigation or filing a first information report (FIR) against the Union minister. Arshad said the police had sought legal opinion on how to take the case forward.
